Product name: Guttalax 1×15 ml, drops
The drug is a topical laxative that causes stimulation of bowel movements and softening of stools.
Used for:
- in patients suffering from constipation
- in conditions where it is necessary to facilitate the emptying of bowel contents.
Method of use
Dosage and dosage schedules
Adults: 10 - 20 drops (5 - 10 mg) per day
Children over 10 years 10-20 drops (5-10 mg) per day
Children aged 4 - 10 years: 5 - 10 drops (2.5 - 5 mg) per day
For children under 4 years of age, the recommended dose is 0.25 mg per kilogram of body weight per day (1 drop contains 0.5 mg of sodium picosulphate).
It is recommended to start with the lowest dose. The dose may be adjusted up to the maximum recommended dose to keep stools regular. The maximum recommended daily dose must not be exceeded!
It is not advisable to take the drug for a long time without consulting a doctor.
Method of use
Oral use. Guttalax is recommended to be taken in the evening so that voiding occurs the following morning. The effect usually occurs between 6 - 12 hours after administration.
Notice
During pregnancy, the drug can be taken only after consulting a doctor.
Children must not take the medicine without a doctor's recommendation.
The drug is not recommended to be taken continuously on a daily or long-term basis without finding out the cause of constipation. Prolonged use in excessive amounts can cause electrolyte imbalance and hypokalaemia.
The drug is contraindicated in severe dehydration.
Dizziness or syncope may occur as a result of a vasovagal reaction (e.g. cramps in the abdominal area). If patients experience abdominal cramps, they should avoid driving or operating machinery.
1 ml of drops contains 0.45 g of sorbitol (at the maximum recommended daily dose of 0.6 g of sorbitol for the treatment of constipation in adults and children over 10 years of age).
The drug is contraindicated in patients with hereditary fructose intolerance.
