Dosage and dosage schedules

Adults and children over 12 years of age: dosage is in the range of 6-12 tablets (1.2-2.4 g) per day (usually 1.2-1.8 g, or 6-9 tablets per day), with a dose of 12 tablets (2.4 g) per day not to be exceeded. For some patients, a maintenance dose of 3-6 tablets (0.6-1.2 g) is sufficient.
Higher doses are given for inflammatory forms; rheumatoid arthritis requires higher dosing than osteoarthritis.
For dysmenorrhea, 2 tablets (400 mg) are given every 4-6 hours.
As an analgesic-antipyretic, it is administered 3-4 times a day in doses of 1-2 tablets (200-400 mg).

Children aged 6-12 years: the daily dose is 20-35 mg/kg body weight divided in several sub-doses. In juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, 40-50 mg/kg bw/day. In children with a body weight of up to 30 kg, it is not recommended to exceed a dose of 2 tablets (400 mg) per day. Once a satisfactory response is achieved, a dose reduction is appropriate to further ensure control of the activity of the process.

The interval between doses is at least 4 hours.

For children under 6 years of age, a medicine containing ibuprofen in the form of a suspension is prescribed.

In adults, if it is necessary to administer this medicine for more than 3 days in the case of fever or 5 days in the case of pain, or if the symptoms of the disease worsen, it is necessary to consult a doctor.
If children and adolescents (6-18 years) need to take this medicine for more than 3 days or if the symptoms of the disease worsen, a doctor should be consulted.

Adverse effects can be minimised by administering the lowest effective dose for the shortest time necessary to control symptoms.

Method of use

The tablets are always taken whole and washed down with plenty of liquid. When gastrointestinal discomfort occurs, it is recommended to take the tablets with a small amount of food or wash them down with milk.

Notice

The drug is contraindicated in the third trimester of pregnancy. During the first and second trimesters, the drug should not be given unless clearly necessary (low doses should be taken and treatment should be as short as possible).
COX inhibitors may cause a decrease in female fertility by acting on ovulation (reversible, resolves after discontinuation of treatment).
The drug is not recommended to be taken while breastfeeding.
The drug is contraindicated in children under 6 years of age.
Careful consideration is required before initiating long-term treatment of patients with risk factors for cardiovascular events (e.g. hypertension, hyperlipidaemia, diabetes mellitus, smoking), especially if high doses of ibuprofen (2 400 mg/day) are required.
Smoking and consumption of alcoholic beverages is not advisable during treatment.
A photosensitive reaction (frequency unknown) may occur when taking the drug.
Further special warnings are given in the SPC (section 4.4).
