The drug suppresses cough irritation and changes the composition of bronchial mucus, thus facilitating its expectoration. The drug is used to treat dry, irritating and difficult to soothe cough in viral infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract, in inflammation of the upper respiratory tract, in inflammation of the pharynx, larynx, bronchi and lungs. The drug can also be given to soothe a cough before and after surgery. It can also be used for asthma, tuberculosis and dusty lungs on the recommendation of a doctor.
Dosage and dosage schedules
The dose is determined according to the patient's body weight:
up to 7 kg: 8 drops 3-4 times a day.
7-12 kg: administered 3-4 times a day 9 drops.
12-20 kg: administered 3 times a day 14 drops.
20-30 kg: administered 3-4 times a day 14 drops.
30-40 kg: administered 3-4 times a day 16 drops.
40-50 kg: 25 drops are administered 3 times a day.
50-70 kg: 30 drops are administered 3 times a day.
over 70 kg: 40 drops 3 times a day.
1 ml of the drug = 34 drops. The maximum daily dose of guaifenesin is 2 400 mg/day for adults and adolescents, 1 200 mg/day for children 6 to 12 years of age, 600 mg/day for children 2 to 6 years of age, and 300 mg/day for children under 2 years of age.
Method of use
The drug should be taken after meals.
The appropriate number of drops is measured into approximately 100 ml of liquid (water, tea, fruit juice, etc.) or applied using a pipette, if this is included in the package of the medicine. The minimum fluid intake should be approximately 100 ml with each administration of drops.
Notice
In the first trimester of pregnancy, the drug should not be taken. There must be compelling reasons (decided by the doctor) for administering the drug in the next period of pregnancy.
In the period of breastfeeding, there must be compelling reasons for administering the drug (decided by the doctor).
If the symptoms do not subside within 3 days or worsen, it is necessary to contact a doctor. Without consulting a doctor, the drug should not be taken for more than 7 days.
The drug may adversely affect activities requiring increased attention (driving, operating machinery, working at heights and the like).
Alcoholic beverages must not be consumed during treatment.
The drug contains 28 % ethanol. A dose of 8 drops contains up to 0.07 g of ethanol.
The medicinal product should be stored at a temperature of up to 25 °C. Protect from cold and frost.
