Dosage and dosage schedules

Adults and children from 12 years of age: dosage is in the range of 3-6 tablets (1.2-2.4 g) per day (usually 1.2-1.8 g), with a dose of 6 tablets (2.4 g) per day not to be exceeded. In some patients, a maintenance dose of 0.6-1.2 g is sufficient.
Higher doses are given for inflammatory forms; rheumatoid arthritis requires higher dosing than osteoarthritis.
For dysmenorrhea, 1 tablet (400 mg) is given every 4-6 hours.
As an analgesic-antipyretic, it is administered 3-4 times a day in doses of 200-400 mg.

The interval between doses is at least 4 hours.

For children under 12 years of age, tablets containing 200 mg of ibuprofen are used, and for children under 6 years of age, ibuprofen in the form of a suspension is prescribed.

In adults, if it is necessary to administer this medicine for more than 3 days in case of fever or if the symptoms of the disease worsen, it is necessary to consult a doctor.
If adolescents (12-18 years) need to take this medicine for more than 3 days or if the symptoms of the disease worsen, a doctor should be consulted.

Adverse effects can be minimised by administering the lowest effective dose for the shortest time necessary to control symptoms.

Method of use

The tablets are always taken whole and washed down with plenty of liquid. When gastrointestinal discomfort occurs, it is recommended to take the tablets with a small amount of food or wash them down with milk.

Notice

The drug is contraindicated in the third trimester of pregnancy. During the first and second trimesters, the drug should not be given unless clearly necessary (low doses should be taken and treatment should be as short as possible).
COX inhibitors may cause a decrease in female fertility by acting on ovulation (reversible, resolves after discontinuation of treatment).
The drug is not recommended to be taken while breastfeeding.
The drug is contraindicated in children under 12 years of age.
Careful consideration is required before initiating long-term treatment of patients with risk factors for cardiovascular events (e.g. hypertension, hyperlipidaemia, diabetes mellitus, smoking), especially if high doses of ibuprofen (2 400 mg/day) are required.
Smoking and consumption of alcoholic beverages is not advisable during treatment.
A photosensitive reaction (frequency unknown) may occur when taking the drug.
Further special warnings are given in the SPC (section 4.4).
